Grottes de Cougnac

Located 23 km from the campsite, discover a site where geological curiosities and treasures of cave art are found side by side: you can admire frescoes drawn more than 30,000 years ago and chambers in which stalactites and stalagmites form a fairy-tale decor.

In these caves, you will be able to admire a rich geology with spectacular characteristics. But also some of the oldest frescoes in our history!

Encounter with pictorial art

Your visit to these caves begins with the geological cave. The steps that lead to the heart of the hill open to you, leading to a vast chamber. In this first cave, discovered in 1949, you can admire a rich mineral vegetation.

In a second cave, discovered a few years later in 1952, is hidden one of the greatest treasures of cave art. You will see what are without doubt the oldest figurative drawings visible to the public, and others dating between 18,000 and 20,000 years ago!
